We helped the Connecticut Association of Realtors rally the public in opposition of a proposed extension of the real estate conveyance tax. The tax was politically popular because it provided a means for funding municipalities, and it was deemed an impossible task to block it. To make the issue hit home, we launched “My House, My Money,” a grassroots effort that clarified the issue for homeowners and mobilized them in reaching legislators. For the first time ever, the campaign helped deny the legislature's attempts to extend the tax during the regular legislative session. A special session was required and the tax passed by the narrowest of margins. So, while the unblockable tax remained unblocked, the Realtors made their voices heard more loudly than ever before.
